I am not a Mustang fanboy, never have been. I can’t stand fox bodies, the SN95 is just bleh. I prefer fastbacks of the 69-70 vintage, and I really like the S195 (2005-2014) design. This new Mustang, I can’t quite make a decision about. At first glance, I don’t like it. It looks bloated or pregnant. Then upon deeper examination, I made a discovery. The new 2015 Mustang is a Porsche. You heard it here first folks. Let’s break it down-
Here is the Porsche Cayman:
And the 2015 Mustang:
Let’s start at the top. The roofline is exactly the same. The taillights are significantly different, but the lower rear valance shares similar lines. Then we come to the door. The C-stripe, which has always been a component of the Mustang, completes the look. Where the Mustang departs from the Cayman is all in front of the doors. The new Mustang front end looks more like a Honda Accord than anything else, even the headlights are similar.
Will the 2015 Mustang take off where the extremely popular ’05 design left off? I don’t know. I do feel like Ford gutted it’s American spirit for the sake of selling Mustangs in Europe. Here is a hint- If it doesn’t handle like a BMW, they won’t buy it. Now if the new Mustang can hit that mark, it will be a massive success, beyond what any other Mustang has managed to do before. While it is growing on me, I need to see it in person and drive it before I decide if I like it.
